What information do I need to complete an application?
To complete the Workforce Family Townhome Program application, you will need:
- Date of Birth for all members of the household
- Social Security Number for all members of the household
- Amount of annual (yearly) gross income for the household
- Name & address of Dakota County employer or school, if applicant does not currently live in Dakota County
Is there an application fee?
There is a $24 application fee that will be assessed when you come in for your briefing appointment. You will not be charged this fee when you fill out your initial application for the Workforce Family Townhome Program. This fee covers the cost of credit and criminal background reports to verify your eligibility for the Workforce Family Townhome Program.
Is there a background check?
Yes, the CDA will be screening your file for criminal background, credit, and past landlord history. You can learn more in this document:

What utilities are included with rent?
Water, sewer and trash are included with rent. Residents are responsible for electricity and gas utilities.
How much is the security deposit?
The security deposit is equal to one month’s rent.
What does “income preference” mean?
“Income preference” is the preferred income range for a household’s income that is participating in the program. For the Workforce Family Townhome Program, the preferred income range is between the minimum and preference income amounts. If the applicant’s income is within the preferred income range, they receive preference points.
Can I use my Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher with this program?
Yes, you can use your Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher with the Workforce Housing Program.
Do I have to live in Dakota County to apply?
No, you do not have to live in Dakota County to apply for the Workforce Family Townhome Program.
However, preference is given to those applicants who live, work, are hired to work or go to school full-time in Dakota County.
How many waiting lists can I choose?
You can choose as many waiting lists as you wish. You will be contacted by mail once your name reaches the top of a waiting list.
How long is the waiting list?
The length of the waiting list depends on location and size of unit. Typically, the wait is between 12 to 24 months.
Is there a playground or swimming pool?
All of the workforce housing developments have a tot lot for young children. Some developments also have a basketball court for older children and a gazebo picnic area.

Are pets allowed?
No, pets are not allowed.
Are there washers and dryers in the townhomes?
No, but there are washer and dryer hook-ups in each unit.
Are there garage door openers?
Yes, there are garage door openers.
Is there air conditioning in the townhomes?
Yes, there is central air conditioning in each of the townhomes. Residents are responsible for the electrical cost of using the air conditioning.
