How do I apply?
Applications for the Scattered
Site Public Housing Program must be completed at the CDA’s
office located at 1228 Town Centre Drive, Eagan between the hours
of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays. To accommodate those who are unable
to apply during these hours, the CDA is open the third Wednesday
of each month until 7 p.m. For driving directions to the CDA’s

What information do I need to complete an application?
- Household member information including birth dates and Social Security Numbers
- Annual gross household income amount
- Name & address of Dakota County Employer or School if applicant does not live in Dakota County
Is there an application fee?
No.
How much is rent?
Eligible families pay 30% of their adjusted
monthly income toward rent.
What utilities are or are not included with rent?
Included
= water and trash removal
NOT Included = electricity, cable, gas
and telephone
How much is the security deposit?
The security deposit
is either one month’s rent or a minimum
of $500 (whichever is greater).

What does income preference mean?
Waiting list preference
is given to families making between the preference and maximum
income limits for the Scattered Site Public Housing Program.
Can I use my Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher with this program?
No.
The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher and the Scattered Site Public
Housing Programs are both federally funded programs and can not
be used in conjunction with one another.
What is the difference between the Section 8 Housing Choice
Voucher Program and the Scattered Site Public Housing Program?
The
Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program provides rental assistance
for low- and moderate-income families who rent in the private
rental market. The assisted household pays 30% of income toward
rent and the voucher pays the difference between the actual rent
and the household’s portion.
Residents of the Scattered Site Public Housing Program pay 30%
of income toward rent for a specific public housing unit owned
and managed by the local housing authority.
Do I have to live in Dakota County to apply?
No, you do
not have to live in Dakota County to apply for the Scattered Site
Public Housing Program. However, preference is given to applicants
who currently live, work or go to school full-time in Dakota County
and whose incomes are between the preference and maximum income
limits for the program.
As of July 31, 2006 the non-preference (non-resident) waiting list for the program is closed.
How many waiting lists can I choose?
You can choose as
many waiting lists as you wish. You will be contacted by mail once
your name reaches the top of a waiting list. Waiting lists for
the Scattered Site Public Housing Program are grouped by city (Burnsville/Eagan,
Apple Valley/Rosemount, Lakeville/Farmington, Inver Grove Heights/West
St. Paul and Hastings).
You will be offered the first unit that becomes available for
the waiting lists that you choose. If you choose not to accept
the unit or do not want to live in the city where the unit is located,
you can choose to have your name moved to the bottom of the waiting
list and wait for the next available unit.
How long are the waiting lists?
Waiting list length depends
on location and unit size needed for your household. Typically
the wait is between 6 to 18 months, but for larger units (4 and
5 bedroom) the wait is 2 to 4 years.
Are pets allowed?
No, pets are not allowed.
Are there washers and dryers in the units?
No, however,
there are washer and dryer hook-ups available in each unit.
Are there garage door openers?
Yes, there are garage door
openers.
