This annual event allows the public to view some of the Dakota County CDA's senior housing developments. This year's Senior Showcase will be held on September 21, 2010 from 1 to 4 p.m. The following buildings will be open that afternoon for tours:

Applications for new affordable townhomes in Apple Valley will be available July 1. The Dakota County CDA is constructing a 45 unit rental townhome development that will be located on Embry Path, east of Pilot Knob Road and south of County Road 42. The townhomes will be completed in summer 2011.
The townhomes will offer affordable rental housing for families with children under the age of 18. Each unit features A/C, dishwasher, one car attached garage and washer/dryer hook-ups.
2010 Program Rents are $615/mo. for a 2 BR and $665/mo. for a 3 BR. Minimum annual income of $16,776/yr. req. for a 2 BR and $18,456/yr. req. for a 3 BR. Maximum income limits are 60% of area median income adjusted for family size (e.g. $45,360 for a family of 3).
Applications are available at the Dakota County CDA's Office located at 1228 Town Centre Drive, Eagan during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The CDA is also open every third Wednesday of the month until 7 p.m. For directions to the CDA’s office, call (651) 675-4440 or visit www.dakotacda.org.
All applications received by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 31 will be placed in a random lottery drawing for placement on the waiting list.

If you’re looking to buy your first home this year in Dakota County, then consider applying for a First Time Homebuyer Loan offered by the Dakota County Community Development Agency. With an interest rate of 4.25% and up to $10,000 in downpayment assistance, buyers will be able to maximize their purchasing power and at the same time have a stable, fixed rate first mortgage.
Interested buyers apply for the loans and downpayment assistance through qualified participating mortgage lenders. Additionally, homebuyers may also receive the one-time $8,000 federal tax credit for first time buyers in addition to this program as long as they meet the requirements and deadlines for the tax credit.

Local elected officials, area seniors and community partners helped dedicate the Dakota County CDA's newest senior housing development, Crossroads Commons, located in Lakeville. The building officially opened to its first residents in October. Fully occupied, the building already boasts a healthy waiting list of interested residents.

Crossroads Commons is the CDA's third senior housing development in Lakeville and 22nd overall in Dakota County. With 87 units it is the largest building in the program and is the second that is completely smoke-free.

On the third Wednesday of every month, CDA housing counselors will be available to meet with Dakota County homeowners until 7 p.m.
The CDA has resources for homeowners who are in or nearing foreclosure, including information on the federal plan for homeowners, Making Home Affordable. The CDA's Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Program provides free counseling assistance and referrals to additional resources if necessary. Dakota County homeowners work one-on-one with trained homeownership specialists to assess their situation and determine possible solutions.
